The Crisis I Didn’t Know I Needed Happened
Struggling with understanding ‘Who Am I?’ A challenge that comes with growth and evolving identities.

Hey there!
This week has been nothing short of transformative. You’d think I’d be here celebrating another week of sticking to my goals—walking daily, writing consistently, and checking off routines—and while all of that happened, something deeper took root in me.
This week, I went on a journey into one of life’s biggest and most unsettling questions: Who am I, really?
It’s funny how simple that question sounds, but when life pulls you in all sorts of directions—parenting, working, mentoring, chasing personal goals—it gets complicated fast. For me, it hit unexpectedly when I sat down to introduce myself to a group of university graduates I’m mentoring. How do I sum up who I am?
Am I the communications expert? The writer? The mother? The mentor? The person who’s somehow juggling it all? None of these labels felt quite right. I was staring at my own life like a jigsaw puzzle with a few pieces missing.
As humans, we cling to old identities because they’re comfortable.
They tell a familiar story about who we’ve been. But this week reminded me that those old labels don’t always fit anymore, like clothes that used to feel perfect but now seem a bit too tight. They’re like clothes that used to feel perfect but now seem a bit too tight, too confining.
The truth is, we’re always in flux. The person I was last year? She’s not the same as the person writing this today. And that’s the beauty of it. We’re all growing, shifting, evolving and that’s a good thing. Holding on to who we used to be is tempting, but it’s limiting. It keeps us from stepping into who we’re becoming.
So, here’s the shift.
Instead of obsessing over who we are, why not focus on how we’re growing? Instead of worrying about fitting into the perfect box, why not focus on pushing ourselves to evolve, to learn, and to become better, day by day?
You don’t need to have it all figured out. None of us do. And guess what? That’s totally okay. The magic isn’t in the label you wear today, it’s in the constant pursuit of growth, in the decision to keep moving forward even when the road feels uncertain.
My lessons from this week?
This week has shown me that the journey to figuring out who we are isn’t linear. We aren’t a fixed set of traits or accomplishments. We’re dynamic. We’re ever-changing, constantly rewriting the story of who we are. And the beauty of life lies in that very unpredictability.
So, here’s my question to you:
Are you still holding on to an old version of yourself? Are you letting past labels or expectations keep you from stepping into the person you’re becoming?
Please stop. Stop stressing over fitting into a perfect identity. Enjoy the growth. Be proud of the fact that you’re a work in progress, evolving with every step you take.
This new week, I challenge you to focus on your evolution. Don’t cling to old labels that no longer serve you, but lean into the journey, be curious about the uncertainty, and allow yourself to grow into the person you’re meant to be.
Remember:
"Your life will be a blessed and balanced experience if you first honour your identity and priority."
