I'm Discovering New Passions & Growth
Stepping out of your comfort zone may be what you need to find unexpected joy and fulfilment.
This edition of my newsletter is brought to you by:
Hello there!
It’s my first letter for October and all I can say is ‘Wow!’
I have all of this energy pulsing through my veins and it’s not just because I’ve been writing to you consistently for 5 weeks now, but also because this month has allowed me to explore my creativity.
For the past month, I focused on improving my writing skills through daily essays, and it was great but this month, I’m venturing into something new. I’m exploring writing short stories and poems, two genres I’ve always enjoyed reading but never thought I could write myself.
What’s surprised me most is how much I’ve enjoyed the process. I’ve always been drawn to the rhythm and brevity of poetry and the deep storytelling in short stories, but I didn’t think I had the skill to pull them off. However, over the last few days of experimenting with both, my appreciation for them has grown, and so has my desire to explore more.
I’m realising that:
Sometimes, we get so focused on improving one particular skill or working toward one specific goal that we ignore or forget to explore other areas. But growth doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when we stretch ourselves into new spaces when we try things we didn’t think we’d be good at, and when we allow ourselves to be curious.
I’ve found a new love for short stories and poetry, not just because they challenge me, but because they bring a different kind of joy and fulfilment. This has taught me that it’s okay to explore beyond what we think we’re "good" at. Sometimes, our best discoveries come from unexpected places.
Why?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this week, it’s that you never know what you’re capable of until you try. Maybe there’s something you’ve been curious about—whether it’s a skill, a hobby, or even a career path—but you’ve been hesitant to explore it because it feels out of reach. But what if, like me, you try it and find out you’re actually good at it? Or at the very least, that you enjoy it far more than you expected?
Don’t limit your growth to one area. Yes, mastering a skill is important, but so is discovering new interests, new talents and new passions. Every time you try something new, you open up more possibilities for yourself. I’m not saying that you have to be the best at everything. No. I’m more focused on you finding joy in the journey of learning and growing.
So, what’s my plan going forward?
This month, I’ll continue writing short stories and poems, experimenting with new ideas, and sharing the lessons I’m learning along the way. I’m excited to see where this exploration will take me and how it will shape my overall writing journey.
I encourage you to do the same. Take that first step into the unknown. Try something that’s been on your mind but feels out of reach. Explore, experiment, and allow yourself to grow in unexpected ways. You might be surprised by what you discover.
Remember:
"Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while working."
- Henri Matisse
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Until next week’s letter, have an amazing life!
With Love,
Rae.
